BREAKING: Google is now indexing all new websites as Mobile-First!

That’s right. Starting on July 1st 2019, Google started indexing all new websites as mobile-first by default.

It’s OK… take a big breath now. Don’t panic just yet. Let’s first try to understand the meaning of all this.

According to Google, “Mobile-first indexing means Google predominantly uses the mobile version of the content for indexing and ranking. Historically, the index primarily used the desktop version of a page’s content when evaluating the relevance of a page to a user’s query. Since the majority of users now access Google Search with a mobile device, Googlebot primarily crawls and indexes pages with the smartphone agent going forward.

Starting July 1, 2019, mobile-first indexing is enabled by default for all new websites (new to the web or previously unknown to Google Search).”

It goes without saying that if you currently don’t have a mobile friendly version of your website you are far behind and immediate action must be taken. Right now, you are almost invisible for Google on mobile device searches.

Now, if you are already running a responsive designed website, good for you. No change from your side is required because your mobile version content is the same as the desktop version.

In any case, what you should be focusing on is delivering a stronger mobile user experience which will help ranki your website search results higher. So to help you catch up with the mobile-first hype, here’s a list of the top 5 mobile UX trends you should consider implementing.
